Kate Roberts began her journey with horses before she could walk. Kate was born in Zimbabwe, where her parents had a beautiful farm with over 30 horses. In 2001, after the family lost their farm to the 'Land Grab', they moved to Zululand, KZN, SA. Once in Zululand, her parents opened a riding school and livery yard. Kate has received colours for Dressage, Show Jumping, Eventing, and Equitation. Her greatest accomplishment was taking her beloved Hushy from a troublesome race horse, who ended up at the Eastern Cape Horse Care Unit as he would dangerously flip over backwards with jockeys, to an outstanding 3* eventer. This is the highest level reached by any Eastern Cape Rider to date. Hushy was a cross-country machine who gave his whole heart and more to please. Very sadly, in 2021, Hushy had to be put down due to an incurable, debilitating illness.
Horses have been a part of Kate's life for as long as she can remember. There is so much joy, love, purpose, and valuable life lessons that horses bring to one's life. Kate married her high school sweetheart, Ian, who is actively involved in Katelands on a daily basis. They have the most adorable son, Landon ❤️, who you are bound to see having a pony ride on precious Buttercup (Katelands' legend miniature pony) or driving around the farm on his electrical tractor or just being doted on by the girls at the yard.
Amoré started her competitive career at just 5 years old, producing her own ponies and horses. She has competed in Showing, Dressage, Show Jumping and Equitation.
